Baylor defensive lineman Devonte Tezino will not play again this season after a leg injury in Saturday’s game against Prairie View A&M, coach Dave Aranda confirmed after the game. Tezino was taken off the field in a cart after calling for medical personnel.
The injury occurred on Baylor’s second offensive play from scrimmage, when a Prairie View A&M offensive lineman used a cut block. Tezino, a fifth-year senior from Killeen, began the season with two sacks and a tipped pass that led to an interception against Auburn. Aranda said Tezino had been playing the strongest football of his career before getting hurt.
Tezino missed time with injuries last fall but played in all 12 games, starting seven. He recorded 24 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, one sack and one pass breakup that season. Across 29 games at Baylor, he has 56 tackles.
Baylor has depth on its defensive line, but two starters are now out for the season. Safety Jacob Redding is the other player identified as having a season-ending injury. SicEm365 reported the injury and Aranda’s comments.
