Baylor has made an offer to Bear Acy, a five-star basketball prospect in the 2029 class who holds the No. 7 national ranking, according to SI.com. Acy has not announced a decision, and the report says more offers are likely to follow.
Acy is listed at 6 feet, 7 inches. His size could help him affect play on offense and defense, while his reported strengths include protecting the basket, interrupting passes and producing blocks and deflections.
His father, Quincy Acy, played forward for Baylor from 2008 through 2012. Quincy Acy earned All-Big 12 Defensive Team recognition for the 2011-12 season and was known for scoring near the basket, rebounding and blocking shots. Baylor coach Scott Drew coached him throughout those four seasons.
Drew could coach another generation of the family if Bear Acy chooses Baylor. Before taking over as Baylor's head coach in 2003, Drew was an assistant at Valparaiso under his father, Hall of Fame coach Homer Drew. The offer is not described as Acy's only recruiting opportunity, and it is unclear whether his connection to his father will affect his decision.
