Atmos Energy crews and contractors will conduct a mobile leak detection survey of Denison’s natural gas distribution system from Oct. 8 through Oct. 10.

The survey will use mobile leak detection units to measure and map methane plumes in the area. The units are white SUVs with flashing lights and either an Atmos Energy logo or a “Utility Contractor” label.

Residents may see the vehicles driving slowly in streets and alleys at night. The nighttime driving is part of the process to ensure an accurate survey of the gas system.

If crews discover a natural gas leak during the routine maintenance work, they will investigate and grade it. A Grade 1 leak, classified as hazardous, will be addressed immediately to eliminate the hazard. Grade 2 and Grade 3 leaks will be monitored and scheduled for repair based on state and federal guidelines.
