Atmos Energy to conduct mobile leak detection survey in Denison

Atmos Energy will conduct a Mobile Leak Detection (AMLD) Survey in Denison from September 27 to October 1. During this period, Atmos Energy crews and contractors will perform safety surveys of the natural gas distribution system using mobile leak detection units. These vehicles are designed to measure and map methane plumes within the area.

Residents may observe white SUVs equipped with flashing lights driving slowly through streets and alleys, including at night. The vehicles will be labeled with an Atmos Energy logo or the text "Utility Contractor." Driving at night is part of the process to ensure an accurate survey of the gas system.

This activity is described as routine maintenance. If a natural gas leak is discovered during the survey, crews will investigate and grade the leak. According to the announcement, if a Grade 1 leak, defined as a hazardous leak, is found, immediate action will be taken to eliminate the hazard.

Grade 2 and Grade 3 leaks will be monitored and scheduled for repair in accordance with state and federal guidelines.
