Goodwill ArtWorks in downtown Denison has introduced its third rotation of featured artists, a display scheduled to remain open until December 31. The gallery is currently approaching its first anniversary since opening in the city.
Matt Bardwell, who serves as the manager and is a veteran artist at the facility, described the selection process as an intuitive effort to find creators with distinct narratives. He noted that the current group is eclectic, encompassing a wide variety of styles and mediums. The primary goal was to identify individuals who have a story to tell through their work.
Bardwell explained that curating the exhibits involves looking at how different pieces interact and flow together. The studio makes all displayed artwork available for purchase, along with items created in-house by the studio staff.
Beyond the gallery space, Bardwell highlighted the studio's role as a community hub. He described the location as a safe environment where visitors engage in activities beyond art viewing, such as completing school assignments or conducting business. During weekdays, the facility hosts art classes designed for participants of all ages and skill levels.
Bardwell stated that observing visitors become more comfortable over time is a rewarding aspect of his role. He recalled seeing individuals who were initially hesitant transform into energetic participants after attending for several months.
