Denison ISD's fifth and sixth graders started their school year Thursday inside a building no student had ever attended: the new B. McDaniel Intermediate School, an $82 million campus funded by the district's 2023 bond, as reported by KXII.
The school opens with a double gymnasium, a courtyard and an amphitheater.
Superintendent David Kirkbride told the station the design centers on how students learn. "There's windows everywhere. We have lots of natural light coming in. There's tons of collaborative space," Kirkbride said. "This building by design was created so our kids could breathe and thrive in a great learning environment."
Kirkbride said the district has never had a facility like it.
