Denison Fire Rescue is preparing to launch its 39th consecutive Independence Day fireworks display at Munson Stadium on Saturday night. The event coincides with national celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of the United States, as well as the 150th anniversary of the local fire department.
Deputy Fire Marshal Landon Lindsey stated that this year’s production will be the largest the city has ever seen. The display will include roughly 1,000 fireworks spread over a 25-minute duration. Lindsey noted that preparations begin early in the year, with the department coordinating closely with Denison Main Street to organize the event.
Unlike many municipalities that hire external production crews, Denison relies entirely on its own personnel. A team of approximately ten fire department members handles the setup and execution. The process involves wiring the pyrotechnics and managing logistics in high temperatures before the event.
The department transitioned to a fully electronic firing system in 2014. This technology allows the crew to launch the fireworks remotely from a distance of 300 to 400 feet. Lindsey described the remote system as significantly safer for the personnel involved.
The celebration at Munson Stadium will also feature food vendors, inflatable attractions, face painting, rides, and live music. Gates open at 5 p.m. Shawnda Rains Entertainment is scheduled to perform starting at 7:30 p.m., preceding the fireworks finale.
