Downtown Denison hosted the return of the Stars, Stripes & Santa event on Saturday, featuring patriotic decorations and a Santa Claus dressed in red, white, and blue attire. The celebration marked the revival of a Christmas in July tradition that had been absent from the area for several years.

Derek Roberts, owner of Pop Around the Corner, explained that the timing aligned with the Fourth of July weekend. He noted that the holiday falling on July 25 provided an ideal opportunity to reintroduce the festive shopping event to the community.

Local business owners viewed the gathering as a strategic effort to boost retail activity during a typically slow period. Roberts stated that June and July often see reduced local shopping as residents travel. The event aimed to encourage residents to spend money at Main Street merchants during this challenging season.

The day also featured a youth entrepreneur market hosted by Leapin' Littles. Young vendors set up booths alongside established local businesses to sell their items. Stephanie Wallick, owner of Leapin' Littles, said the program was designed to keep children engaged during the summer break.

Wallick emphasized that the market served an educational purpose. She said the experience helped build confidence in young participants and taught them practical skills, such as interacting with customers and handling money.

The event drew shoppers to storefronts along Main Street, offering a chance for businesses to welcome first-time visitors. Details regarding attendance numbers or total sales figures were not provided.
