Late-Term Decisive Strike

The final minutes at Reliant Stadium defined the outcome, as CeeDee Lamb hauled in a 12-yard pass from Dak Prescott for a touchdown that put the Dallas Cowboys ahead 34-30. That decisive strike, followed by a successful extra point kick by Brandon Aubrey, capped a dramatic fourth-quarter rally for the visitors.

The win improved the Cowboys to 2-2, while the Houston Texans fell to 0-4 in front of a crowd of 71,227 on Sunday, October 4, 2026.

Early Field Goal Battle

The game opened with a heavy emphasis on special teams. Nico Collins connected with C.J. Stroud on a 7-yard pass to give Houston an early 7-0 lead.

The Cowboys responded with a 39-yard field goal by Brandon Aubrey, but Ka'imi Fairbairn answered with a 51-yard kick to extend the home lead. The second quarter continued this pattern, with Aubrey adding a 50-yard field goal. Fairbairn then converted from 39 and 54 yards out, leaving the Texans with a 16-6 lead heading into halftime.

Both teams relied heavily on their kickers to move the scoreboard before the second half commenced.

Third-Quarter Momentum Shift

The third quarter brought the first rushing touchdowns of the game. Javonte Williams broke through for an 8-yard score, cutting Dallas’s deficit. Stroud and Collins then reconnected for a 22-yard touchdown pass to restore Houston’s advantage.

However, Williams immediately responded with a 1-yard rush, and the Cowboys took a 20-23 lead into the fourth quarter. The back-and-forth nature of the scoring highlighted the physical intensity of the contest, with both offenses finding ways to score despite defensive pressure.

Fourth-Quarter Rally and Final Stand

The final period saw Javonte Williams score again, this time on a 2-yard rush, putting the Cowboys up 27-23. Houston’s Woody Marks rushed for 6 yards to tie the game at 30, setting the stage for the final play. CeeDee Lamb’s 12-yard reception provided the margin of victory.

Statistically, Javonte Williams led Dallas with 19 carries for 62 yards and three touchdowns, while CeeDee Lamb caught 17 passes for 189 yards. On the other side, C.J. Stroud passed for 347 yards and two touchdowns, and Nico Collins hauled in 118 yards.
