Clement’s 10th-inning homer pushes Blue Jays past Astros 5-4

Clement changes it in the 10th

Ernie Clement provided the swing that decided it, hitting a two-run homer to left in the 10th inning as the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Houston Astros 5-4 on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Daikin Park.

Clement’s 391-foot drive scored Urías and put Toronto ahead 5-3. Houston answered in its half of the inning when Alvarez singled to right, scoring Peña, but Alvarez was out stretching at second. The Astros challenged the play, and the call on the field was upheld.

Astros build early lead

Houston took the first lead in the third inning. Altuve homered to left, a 401-foot shot that made it 1-0. Walker followed later in the inning with a double to left that scored Varsho, and Wade Jr. singled to center to bring in Walker for a 3-0 Astros lead.

Jameson Taillon worked four innings for Toronto, allowing six hits, three earned runs and two walks with four strikeouts. Hunter Brown covered six innings for Houston, giving up three hits, three earned runs and two walks while striking out eight.

Toronto ties it in the sixth

The Blue Jays erased the deficit in the sixth. Okamoto singled to center to score Straw, cutting Houston’s lead to 3-1. Sánchez then tied the game with a 398-foot homer to right, scoring Okamoto and making it 3-3.

Steven Okert, Bryan Abreu and Josh Hader each had one-inning appearances for Houston without allowing a hit, an earned run or a walk. Okert struck out one, Abreu struck out two and Hader struck out one.

Bullpen finishes it

Toronto’s relief group kept the game even before the 10th. Spencer Miles pitched two innings, allowing two hits with no earned runs or walks and two strikeouts. Mason Fluharty pitched one inning with no hits, no earned runs, no walks and two strikeouts. Tyler Rogers allowed one hit in one inning with no earned runs or walks.

Louis Varland earned the win, improving to 4-4, after one inning with no hits, no earned runs, no walks and one strikeout. Chase Lee recorded his first save, allowing one hit and no earned runs or walks in one inning. Bennett Sousa took the loss for Houston, falling to 0-1, after allowing two hits and one earned run with one strikeout in one inning.

The attendance was 27,751. Houston is 59-57, and Toronto is 54-61.
