Fourth inning opens the gap
Toronto changed the shape of the game in the top of the fourth inning, turning a 1-0 lead into a three-run margin on a play that included a Houston throwing error and a sacrifice fly that followed.
Sánchez singled to left, and Okamoto scored on an error as Sánchez reached second on a throwing error by left fielder Trammell. Springer also reached third on the error. Clement then hit a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Springer and giving the Blue Jays a 3-0 lead.
That sequence proved decisive in Toronto’s 3-1 win over the Houston Astros on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at Daikin Park in Houston. The announced attendance was 22,789.
Kirk supplies the first run
Kirk put Toronto ahead in the top of the second inning with the only home run of the game, a 373-foot drive to left center. The homer gave the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead before their two-run fourth inning.
Houston’s run came in the bottom of the sixth. Peña singled to center, scoring Diaz, with Peña going to second and Smith moving to third. That cut Toronto’s lead to 3-1, but the Astros did not score again.
The scoring was limited to those four plays: Kirk’s homer, the Sánchez single and Houston error in the fourth, Clement’s sacrifice fly and Peña’s RBI single.
