Late Rally Decides Close Game
The Oakland Athletics overcame a four-run deficit to defeat the Houston Astros 7-6 on Sunday, August 23, at Daikin Park. The game’s turning point came in the bottom of the fifth inning, when the away team scored three runs off a home run to tie the contest before taking the lead.
Brandon Muncy then provided the final margin of victory with a solo home run to center field in the seventh inning. The Athletics improved to a 51-80 record, while the Astros fell to 65-66. The game drew a crowd of 30,708 fans.
Astros Build Early Lead
Houston established a commanding lead early in the game. In the first inning, the home team scored three runs. Carlos Correa hit a sacrifice fly to center field, allowing Jose Altuve to score.
Later in the same frame, Altuve hit a three-run home run to left-center field, driving in Yordan Alvarez. The Astros added another run in the second inning when Altuve walked and scored on a subsequent play. By the end of the fourth inning, Houston had extended their lead to 6-0.

Pitching Performance
Jack Perkins earned the win for the Athletics, pitching five innings. He allowed three hits and one earned run while striking out six batters and walking five. Hogan Harris secured the save, pitching one inning without allowing a hit or an earned run while striking out two.
For Houston, Cristian Javier started, pitching four innings. He allowed four hits and three earned runs, striking out eight batters and walking two. Steven Okert took the loss, pitching one inning and allowing one hit and one earned run.
