Turning Point
The Oakland Athletics overturned a deficit by capitalizing on Houston’s bullpen struggles in the final innings. After trailing 3-1 entering the eighth, the visitors loaded the bases and scored four unearned runs against Bennett Sousa to take the lead, holding on for a 4-3 win at Daikin Park.
Scoring Summary
Houston took an early 1-0 advantage in the third inning when Walton launched a 422-foot home run to center field. The Astros answered in the fourth with an insurance run, as Walker crossed the plate after Diaz doubled to left.
Oakland narrowed the gap in the seventh when Varsho hit a 358-foot homer to left. Houston responded later in the frame with a solo shot from Peña and added another run on a single by Wade Jr., making it 3-1.
The game shifted dramatically in the eighth. McNeil scored twice on wild pitches by Sousa, advancing Gelof to third. Butler then singled to right to score Gelof, tying the game at 3-3. Heim grounded out to shortstop, allowing Butler to cross home plate for the go-ahead run.
