Trammell’s three-run homer pushes Astros past Blue Jays 7-2

Trammell breaks the tie open

The turning point came in the bottom of the fifth inning, after Toronto had pulled even. Altuve reached on an infield single to shortstop that scored Alvarez and moved Walker to second, giving the Astros a 3-2 lead. Trammell followed with the game’s only home run, a 388-foot drive to right that scored Walker and Altuve for a 6-2 Houston advantage.

Trammell’s swing accounted for three of Houston’s seven runs. Altuve also drove in a run in the seventh, when he singled to center and Walker scored to make it 7-2.

Houston builds, Toronto answers

The Astros first scored in the bottom of the fourth. Diaz singled to left, bringing in Altuve and moving Trammell to second. Smith then singled to left, and Trammell scored on a throwing error by left fielder Sánchez, with Smith safe at second and Diaz safe at third.

Toronto responded in the top of the fifth. Straw tripled to center to score Giménez, cutting Houston’s lead to 2-1. Straw then scored on a wild pitch by Wesneski, tying the game 2-2 before the Astros answered in the bottom half.

Wesneski earns the win

Hayden Wesneski got the win for Houston, allowing four hits and two earned runs in six innings. He walked two and struck out four. Bennett Sousa pitched one inning with no hits, no walks and one strikeout. Enyel De Los Santos worked two innings, giving up one hit with no walks and one strikeout.

Chad Dallas took the loss for Toronto, allowing seven hits and six earned runs in three innings. He walked four and struck out three. Trey Yesavage pitched two innings with no hits, one walk and no strikeouts.

Braydon Fisher worked one inning with no hits, no walks and one strikeout, Brendon Little allowed two hits and one earned run in one inning, and Mason Fluharty pitched one inning with no hits, one walk and no strikeouts.

Final margin

The Astros finished with a 7-2 win over the Blue Jays on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Daikin Park. Attendance was 30,450. Houston improved to 59-56, while Toronto fell to 53-61.
