Astros Take Command

The Houston Astros defeated the New York Mets 6-3 on Sunday, Aug. 30, at Citi Field in Queens, N.Y. The game featured four home runs and a decisive sixth-inning surge by the visitors. Attendance was 25,227. The Astros improved to 69-68, while the Mets fell to 61-76.

Scoring Sequence

Houston struck first in the top of the first inning when Peña homered to center. New York responded twice in the bottom of the first, with Lindor and Soto both hitting home runs to tie the game at 1-1. The score remained 2-2 after Houston scored again in the second inning on a single by Peña that brought in Diaz.

The Mets took a 3-2 lead in the fifth inning when a ground ball by Torrens resulted in a double play, allowing Ewing to score. The turning point came in the sixth inning when Wade Jr. hit a two-run home run to right, driving in Diaz and extending Houston’s lead to 4-3.

In the seventh inning, a throwing error by first baseman Young allowed Altuve and Paredes to score, giving the Astros a 6-3 lead. Walker also reached third safely on the error.
