Bregnan’s hit came with the score tied at 3-3. His double allowed Jose Altuve to cross the plate, giving the Astros a 4-3 lead. Immediately following the play, Bregnan advanced to second base on a wild pitch by Angels pitcher Mitch Farris, then scored on a second wild pitch by Farris to extend the advantage to 5-3.
This six-run inning proved pivotal. Although the Angels had taken an early 2-0 lead in the first inning thanks to doubles and singles from their batters, Houston’s bullpen held firm until the sixth. The Astros’ offense capitalized on defensive miscues and timely hitting to seize control.
