Astros blank A's 4-0 behind Wesneski's efficient outing

Yordan Alvarez drove in two runs as the Houston Astros defeated the Oakland Athletics 4-0 at Daikin Park. Hayden Wesneski earned the win with five scoreless innings.

Alvarez Powers Astros Offense

The Houston Astros defeated the Oakland Athletics 4-0 on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Daikin Park. Yordan Alvarez was the offensive catalyst, driving in two of the four runs. The Astros scored their first run in the fourth inning when Carlos Paredes scored on a sacrifice fly by Walker.

In the fifth inning, the Astros added two more runs. Alvarez doubled to center field, allowing Allen to score, and then Paredes doubled to right field, bringing Alvarez home. Alvarez completed his day with an RBI double to shortstop in the seventh inning, which scored Delgado.

The Athletics were held scoreless for the entire game, finishing with a record of 49-80. The Astros improved to 65-64. Attendance was 28,477.

Wesneski Leads Astros Staff

Hayden Wesneski secured the victory with a strong performance. He pitched five innings, allowing one hit and three walks while striking out four batters. He did not allow any earned runs.

Bennett Sousa pitched one inning, allowing two hits and striking out three. Bryan Abreu pitched one inning, allowing two walks and striking out two. Steven Okert and Enyel De Los Santos each pitched one hitless inning.

Okert did not record a strikeout, while De Los Santos also did not record a strikeout.

Athletics Struggle Offensively

J.T. Ginn took the loss for the Athletics. He pitched five innings, allowing six hits and three earned runs while walking two batters and striking out four.

Elvis Alvarado pitched one inning, allowing one hit and striking out one. Drew Rom pitched one and one-third innings, allowing two hits and one earned run while walking one and striking out one. Hayden Juenger pitched two-thirds of an inning without allowing hits, walks, or earned runs, and did not record a strikeout.

The Athletics failed to score any runs throughout the contest.
