UK HealthCare and Cigna Healthcare have finalized a new contract that restores in-network access for patients holding Cigna insurance plans. The agreement resolves a period of separation that began in May 2025, when the two organizations parted ways after failing to reach a mutual agreement on contract terms.
The new provider contract officially took effect on April 27. The administrative process for reenrolling providers was completed in June, ensuring that the network status is fully updated for current members.
Under the terms of this agreement, individuals with Cigna insurance who receive care at UK HealthCare facilities will generally face lower out-of-pocket costs compared to seeking treatment at out-of-network providers. This change affects approximately 4,500 patients who lost in-network coverage when the previous contract ended.
The separation between the hospital system and the insurer began on May 1, 2025. During that time, patients with Cigna plans were unable to access UK HealthCare services at in-network rates. The restoration of the contract now allows these members to resume receiving care with the associated financial benefits of in-network status.
Cigna members who have specific questions regarding their coverage or the details of this new arrangement are advised to contact the customer service number located on the back of their insurance cards. The hospital system and the insurer have not provided further details regarding the specific financial terms or the negotiations that led to the previous breakdown in talks.
