Peter Stephens, the former CEO of Bullitt Group, described the strategy as leveraging Caterpillar’s reputation for durability to create an ecosystem of rugged consumer and professional devices. Bullitt handles the engineering to ensure the phones survive drops, dust, and water while meeting global carrier requirements, while Caterpillar provides brand equity in construction and mining sectors.
A key feature of the CAT S62 Pro is an embedded FLIR Lepton 3.5 thermal imaging sensor located next to the main camera module. This sensor enables the creation of detailed heat maps up to 30 meters away, allowing users to visualize hot pipes and cold drafts directly on the phone’s 5.7-inch display.
The sensor offers higher resolution than previous Cat phones and includes multi-spectral blending to overlay live thermal data on standard images. This functionality is intended for electricians, plumbers, and building inspectors who need to identify insulation leaks or overheating components without carrying separate infrared cameras.
The device is built to meet MIL-STD-810H durability standards and carries IP68 and IP69 certifications for dust and water resistance, including high-pressure spray. Bullitt engineers test the chassis with repeated drops onto steel, thermal shocks, and vibration to match Caterpillar’s machinery image. The phone features a reinforced polymer frame and aluminum internal structure surrounded by textured rubber for grip.
Raised bezels help absorb impact, and the device is rated to survive drops from approximately 1.8 meters onto hard surfaces.
