Darrion Williams is set to return to Texas Tech for the 2026-27 season, as announced by head coach Grant McCasland. This move comes after Williams spent the previous season playing at NC State.

Williams began his collegiate journey at Nevada before transferring to Texas Tech, where he played for two seasons. His All-Big 12 First Team junior year in Lubbock saw him average 15.1 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game. He earned All-Big 12 First Team honors and played a key role in leading the Red Raiders to the Elite Eight in the 2025 NCAA Tournament.

At NC State, he averaged 14.0 points per game, contributing significantly with 151 rebounds, 92 assists, and 35 steals.

The recent court ruling that allows Williams to play again stems from a U.S. District Court judge's decision in Colorado. The ruling states that players from the high school class of 2022 who have completed their fourth year of college eligibility are now eligible for a fifth season.

This legal development has reopened opportunities for various programs, including Texas Tech, which has had to adjust its roster to accommodate veteran players like Williams.

For Texas Tech fans, Williams’ return means an All-Big 12 First Team selection will continue competing in the conference rather than moving to the ACC. The Red Raiders will begin their season in the fall, with expectations tied to their previous success with Williams on the team.

Denison is about 69 miles north of Dallas.
