Grayson County's burn ban is over, KXII reported, after it was lifted on Friday, Oct. 2, following recent rain. The ban covered the county's unincorporated areas.
Inside Denison, outdoor burning is handled by the city. The Denison Fire Department issues burn permits for clearing land for development, according to the city, and residents with questions about outside burning, or who want to report illegal burning, can reach the Fire Marshal's Office at (903) 464-4427.
For anyone burning outside city limits, the Grayson County Fire Marshal's Office requires a call to the county's 24-hour Communications Center at 903-813-4411 on the day of the burn. Fires must be attended, kept to daylight hours and limited to brush, leaves and similar material from the property, and are not allowed when winds reach 23 mph.
Fire officials are still urging care. In the KXII report, Collinsville Fire Chief Damon Stewart said dead grass dries out again quickly after rain, and that muddy fields can make a runaway grass fire hard to reach.
